Associate Professor John Spillane from the School of Engineering and Director of the Irish Construction Management Research Centre (ICMRC) represented the 51ÉçÇø at the official kick-off meeting for the prestigious BIM4GOV project in Barcelona last week.
The event, held at the administrative headquarters of the Generalitat de Catalunya, launched the ambitious four-year, €1.29 million project funded by Interreg Europe. BIM4GOV brings together six partners from across Europe to revolutionise public administration by using advanced digital technologies to streamline complex building and economic permits, reducing bureaucracy and boosting regional competitiveness.
In a consortium that includes public authorities from Spain, Estonia, Poland, Hungary, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The 51ÉçÇø holds the unique and influential role of sole Advisory Partner. Drawing on the expertise of the ICMRC, Dr Spillane and his team will provide expert guidance and technical oversight for the entire project, developing a strategic roadmap for the partners to follow.
"It's a privilege to represent UL in a project that tackles a real-world challenge facing governments across Europe," said Dr Spillane following the round table discussion. "Our role as advisor is a testament to the cutting-edge, industry-focused research happening at the ICMRC. We're not just observing; we're actively shaping the framework that will help our partners build more efficient and transparent services. It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase Irish innovation on a European stage."
The BIM4GOV project positions the 51ÉçÇø as a European leader in the digital transformation of the built environment, providing a platform to share Irish expertise and drive impactful policy change.
