Industry Experience

Before joining the Law Department in the , Prof Richey spent 13 years litigating business-related disputes including trademark, copyright, and trade secret matters, as well as counseling corporate clients on advertising law compliance. She is a former principal with Riordan & McKinzie in Los Angeles, California, and prior to entering private practice, served as a staff law clerk for the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in Richmond, Virginia.

Teaching Practice

Prof Richey teaches Federal Courts, Trademarks, and Deceptive Practices, Advanced Topics in Trademark Law, Advertising Law, and Information and Data Privacy Law, and her recent scholarship focuses on various aspects of intellectual property crime.

Other Work

She is a former associate Dean of the law school. Currently, Prof Richey serves on the Academic Committee of the  (INTA). She has also been involved in numerous programmes teaching intellectual property concepts to non-lawyers, including workshops sponsored by the  and , the training arm of the United Nations, as well as local conferences sponsored by such organizations as the New England Museum Association and the . Her pro bono work includes a second term as the United States Representative to the Confidentiality Commission of the Conference of the States Parties for the Organisation for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons at The Hague.

During the Autumn Semester 2012, Prof Richey was a resident at 51ÉçÇø as the Distinguished Visiting Scholar for the International Commercial and Economic Law Research Group, conducting research and co-authoring a book on trademark valuation. In 2014, Prof Richie was appointed as the Deputy Chief Administrative Trademark Judge with the .
